Happy New Year! Welcome back to Teaching in Pink. I don’t know about you, but January is always a strange month for me. As a teacher, it’s the middle of the school year. But, the calendar says it’s the beginning of a new year. What’s a teacher to do???
January is actually the perfect month to reset and refocus your classroom. Rather than setting new year’s resolutions — which, let’s face it, rarely ever work — I find that resetting and refocusing works for me as a teacher. With just a few questions, I can return my focus to what’s important to me in my classroom and reset anything that I lost track of. My first thoughts always turn to my classroom management. Is my behavior management system having the impact on my students that I want? Have my routines and procedures helped my students to transition smoothly during the day? Are there any schedule changes that I need to adjust to? These are almost always the questions I ask myself during this transitional time after the return from Winter Recess.
I hope 2019 has gotten off to a great start for everyone. Let me know how you reset and refocus in January by leaving a comment. Stay rosy!
