Celebrating Dr. King

As we take time today to celebrate and reflect on the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., we need to remember that Dr. King’s message isn’t just for today. As teachers, we have daily opportunities to model kindness, respect, and integrity to our students. These opportunities exist in moments of explicit instruction, and, more importantly, in those fleeting moments when we interact with others. How we interact with our students and their families, our colleagues, and members of the community influences how our students will interact with others. Keeping Dr. King’s message fresh in our minds and in our classrooms throughout the year is vital to student social-emotional learning. So, teachers, as you enjoy your day off, think about how you can bring Dr. King’s message to your class tomorrow and every day. And, don’t forget to stay rosy!
