I would imagine that it is going to be difficult for people to feel grateful in 2020. This year has been a challenge, at the very least, for most of us. For many others, the year has been tragic. However, I still feel that my teacher heart is full, and I want to share what I am most grateful for this year.
To begin, I am grateful to be an educator at this time in history. As educators, we have been a part of a historic year. The challenges we have endured as teachers have made us more inventive and creative. Yes, we’re exhausted. But, our exhaustion comes from using our skills and innovation to the absolute max. As crazy as it sounds, this is the BEST time to be an educator!
I am grateful for my students. Without them, I wouldn’t have a job. In a year when so many lost work, my work kept going. My gratitude for having a paycheck every month is unending. I’m so grateful to my students for showing up online, being patient as their teacher figures out how to teach all of her in-person lessons virtually, and for doing the best they can without the calming routines of the classroom. Without our students, we couldn’t do what we do.
Although there are many more things to be grateful for, the final bit of gratitude I want to share is for my colleagues. All of you. All over the country. All over the world. I’ve read your blogs. I’ve bought your Teachers Pay Teachers products. I’ve watched your YouTube videos and Instagram stories. You have inspired me with your endless energy and creativity. Thanks to all of you for helping me get through 2020.
As we begin the month that is traditionally reserved for gratitude in the United States, I hope you will all find something to be grateful for this year. And, I hope that you will find something to be grateful for each day.
Until next time…HAPPY TEACHING!
Pina Rose
