You may have noticed that I didn’t post last week. The challenges of teaching during a pandemic caught up to me. I imagine there are many other educators feeling the same way. It took quite some effort to forgive myself for not posting last week. But, I know that forgiveness was necessary. I want to remind you that you can forgive yourself for struggling right now.
In my fifteen years as an educator, I’ve noticed so many similarities among different teachers. Although we may all have our own unique teaching styles, one similarity that I see over and over again is how hard we are on ourselves. Even the most laid-back, even-keeled teacher can be the most self-critical. And, now that we have been placed in this improbable situation, I’ve seen all over social media how teachers are feeling like they are failing. It’s hard to read the posts and comments of teachers who feel like they are at the end of their rope.
There so much more that I wish I could do for you. I hope that this post to let you know that you are not alone in your struggles gives you some peace. I hope that you will hear my reminder to forgive yourself for feeling tired. We will all get through this, and we will be better and stronger for it.
